Dear Robin’s Parents and Children
We hope you had a great summer, with lots of memories to treasure.
We are looking forward to welcoming the new reception Robins and know that our Y1 Robins will make excellent role models.
For the first couple of weeks the Foundation Stage children will spend time getting to know, each other, Y1’s, adults in the class and become familiar with school life. They will engage in circle times, number rhymes, stories and begin to learn their phonics. More formal teaching will take place for the Y1’s, but there will be some opportunity for free learning play as well!
Our timetabled PE times are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, but please could you ensure that your children have their named PE kits in school every day, just in case!
We like to ensure the transition to school is as smooth as can be, with very few demands on the children in the first few weeks, so please do share any issues you or your children may have that may affect their enjoyment of this special time. After they have settled in, I will begin more formal teaching and the children will bring home books to share with an adult. Year 1’s will bring home home-learning and reading books during the first week of term.
Our topic will be “Native Americans”. If you have any toys or books that could help us with this topic then please send them into school. We promise to take very good care of them. We are particularly seeking any children’s tipi’s you may have, or any resources, for example canes and sheets that we could use to make our own, and boxes to make totem poles. We would be grateful for any help with our role play areas.
Look out for photographs of Robins class on our school Facebook Page.
Please don’t hesitate to come and talk to me about any concerns you may have.
