Robins Term 6 – Update/Website

Wow! Where has this year gone? I can’t believe we are in Term 6 already!

We hope you had an enjoyable half term. What wonderful weather we had! Let’s hope the sun continues to shine for this terms topic which is “Under and Over the Sea”. The children will learn about the many creatures that live in and around the sea, geographical features of the seaside and what life was like at the seaside in the past.

In English the children will continue to practise their letters and sounds phases 3, 4 and 5 to consolidate their learning. The Foundation Stage children will be encouraged to write daily in preparation for Year 1, using their knowledge of sounds and key words to write words in simple sentences with full stops and capital letters. Year 1’s will continue to develop their writing by using a range of punctuation, including question marks, full stops, commas in a list, exclamation marks and capital letters to punctuate sentences properly. They will also use different sentence openers and link sentences together with the words “and, then, but and because”. We will be reading stories and poems about the seaside, and writing our own. We will use non-fiction texts to research sea creatures and create our own fact file.

Later this term we will bring our topic alive by visiting the seaside with Chaffinches, more details about this will follow very soon.

As part of our seaside theme, the children will develop their own role play areas. They will enjoy playing on the beach, making ice creams in the ice cream shop and playing in the sand and water trays to name but a few.

We will also be trying our hand at sewing! My aim is for each child to make a felt sea creature and sew it together! I will probably do this over the course of one week later in the term and welcome any offers of help! I think we may need it!

As always please remember to have PE kits in school at all times, we like to be flexible with when we do PE, especially if the weather is nice. Mr Herring will be teaching the class every Thursday and we will be practising for sports day most weeks. We have noticed that some items of clothing are missing from the children’s PE bags and daps are becoming difficult to put on, therefore please could you check that your child has a complete PE kit. We have a few spares but not enough for everyone. Many thanks.
